PERPLEX turns costumes into rhythms which make music and then songs and sews it altogether with video projections.
PERPLEX has played in Paris, Lille and New York and now is coming to Auburn as she returns to the Cayuga lake region
where she grew up, only child of the designers Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs.

PERPLEX brings flat and folded fabric remnants to life, following the whims contained in their colors and textures, to create sculptural clothing. The form the fabric takes on compels the body to move with a unique rhythm and gesture; this rhythm in turn plots the map for the composition of a piece of music to partner it. Melodies slide into lyrics. The lyrics testify to a vigorous effort to survive in this absurd age where even the content of a tomatoe must be regarded with suspicion. These costumed compositions are strung together, alternating video pieces with live performance to create a multidisciplinary, one woman + five musician show, complete with catchy refrains and delicious grooves. Is it a concert? Is it a ballet? Is it sculpture? What impels a form in space to move and even sing and dance?

Perplex est une créature nouvelle, qui compose avec tous les éléments sensoriels pour produire un Art nouveau aux multiples facettes enchevetrées de tissus, de notes, de rythmes, de lumières et de quelques mots pour former un Concert Spectaculaire garni d'une Dance sur le fil du razoir ! Une oeuvre qui répond a toutes les dimensions pour en former une nouvelle en perpétuelle mutation.
